Initiatives 2009- Roaring Laughter

One way the people of this state can get an issue or idea policy they deem relevant to the common good on a ballot is through the Initiative and Referendum process. The voters would then vote on the proposal. Whether or not you agree with this process is not the matter. But given what is proposed for the 2009 ballot, I'd say opponents have a lot of fuel here.

These are just a few of the state Initiatives currently made pass the first requirements before being qualified for a ballot. The sponsor must get the required number of signatures by July.

I’m not making this up folks, these are for real.

  • Initiative Measure No. 1045 concerns a state-run health insurance program. This measure would create a new state insurance agency to develop the contents of a state-run health insurance program covering all Washington residents and funded by premiums paid by Washington employers and employees.

  • Initiative Measure No. 1046 concerns safety equipment. This measure would repeal mandatory helmet use when operating motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, mopeds, and electric-assisted bicycles; repeal mandatory safety belt use for persons sixteen or older; and repeal state regulation of hunters’clothing.

  • Initiative Measure No. 1047 concerns a supreme ruler of the universe. This measure would prohibit state use of public money or lands for anything that denies or attempts to refute the existence of a supreme ruler of the universe, including textbooks, instruction or research. [Last day to challenge ballot title and/or summary: 03-06-2009]

  • Initiative Measure No. 1048 concerns the conduct of elections. This measure would revise requirements for candidates to qualify for the primary and general election ballots, repealing laws providing that only the top vote-getters in the primary would advance to the general election.

This is just the short summaries. If you can see them through your tears of laughter, read more about these and others for the proposed 2009 ballot visit the SoS site at- Proposed Initiatives to the People .
